Creating an Earthy and Modern Brand for Eumundi Museum: A Design History
The Eumundi Museum is a local history museum that showcases the rich history of the town, from its indigenous roots to its timber cutting past. When tasked with designing a brand for the museum, I was tasked with capturing the essence of the town's history and creating a connection between the past and present. The result was a brand that combined an earthy colour palette with bright contrasts, and a modern tree icon incorporated into the E shape. The brandmark is easily reproducible in a number of colour variations, and the identity also featured patterns and natural visual elements. The result was a brand that perfectly symbolises Eumundi's unique history and heritage.
THE CHALLENGE
When designing the brand for the Eumundi Museum, the main challenge was to find a way to symbolise the town's rich history and its connection with the present. The brand had to capture the essence of the town's past as a major timber-cutting hub and convey the modern, dynamic character of the museum. Additionally, the design had to be versatile enough to be used in a variety of media and applications.
THE SOLUTION
To overcome these challenges, I chose to use an earthy colour palette that would evoke the natural beauty of the local area. The bright orange added a modern, vibrant contrast to the palette, creating a strong visual impact. The icon I designed - a modern tree incorporated into the letter "E" - symbolises the connection between the town's past and present, and is easily reproducible in different colour variations. To further reinforce the brand identity, I also created a series of identity elements such as patterns and natural visual elements. The result was a brand that accurately represented the Eumundi Museum and its mission, while being visually engaging and easily recognisable.
